Hazard Mitigation Grant Program
Langton Consulting assists clients in navigating their Local Mitigation Strategy Working Group processes to ensure their projects are locally prioritized in advance of HMGP application deadlines and continues to work with clients post-application submission with responses to inquiries that arise during the programmatic, technical and environmental reviews conducted by the Florida Division of Emergency Management prior to State approval and forwarding of implementation-ready projects to FEMA for final authorization and funding.
Beginning with the Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne cycles of 2004, Langton Consulting has assisted clients with the preparation and submission of 89 HMGP applications to fund more than $35 million in mitigation projects and emergency generator and transfer switch installations at Atlantic Beach’s City Hall and Public Works Administration Building, to multiple multi-million dollar neighborhood drainage improvements in Seminole County and the City of Orlando.
In addition to the Public Assistance, Individual Assistance and Small Business Administration programs that provide immediate response and recovery funding following a Presidentially declared disaster, such catastrophic events set in motion Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) cycles, providing a funding mechanism for local communities to implement projects that mitigate the affects of future disasters. HMGP funds projects in three primary categories: Wind Retrofits of Critical Facilities (i.e. Fire Stations, Police Stations, Public Shelters); Generator Purchases for Critical Facilities, and Flood Mitigation Activities.
Langton Consulting has a strong expertise in a large number of programs we have grouped under Emergency Management. This is appropriate to the reorganization of federal programs and funding streams under the US Department of Homeland Security especially since September 11, 2001. Further, having worked in Disaster Recovery, Langton Consulting is able to provide clients “on the ground” experience with assisting local government in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery grants.
